TechnoHomesteading is about how we manage to run a successful business from a tiny town in rural Idaho. Many people talk about moving away from the "Big City" and embarking on a simpler life, but few people actually do it.
The articles on this site offer a perspective on what it's really like to live in a small town and run a Web-intensive business. We talk about both the good and the not-so-good aspects of the area, rural living, and running an online business.
Although we love living in our tiny piece of forest outside of Sandpoint, Idaho we know that in summer there will be mosquitoes and in the spring the dirt roads will turn into sucking mud. We know our Internet connection may be iffy and we might lose power in the next snowstorm (yes, we have a back-up generator).
Whether you've been living the TechnoHomesteader lifestyle for years, have just arrived, or are dreaming of relocating to a rural area, you'll enjoy the viewpoints and photographs that show what it's really like to live in a small town here in the skinny part of Idaho.
Technohomesteading articles are:
- Written by people who live and work in a tiny town in the Idaho Panhandle called Sandpoint. We aren't "natives" but we are locals. Like a lot of other people here, we lived in other places and escaped.
- Accessible.Moving just to left of the the middle of nowhere wasn't easy, but it wasn't impossible either. If we can do this, so can you. But only if you really WANT to.
- Honest. We take pictures even when the weather stinks. (If you believed the brochures, you'd think it never rains here!)
- Biased. Our TechnoHomesteading articles aren't "objective" like a newspaper. You get our opinions; you can feel free to agree or disagree
Who Writes This?
The articles on this Web site are written by Susan Daffron and James Byrd, the owners of a small publishing company called Logical Expressions, Inc.
James and Susan have lived in Sandpoint since 1996. We escaped the freeways and smog of southern California, and traded our tiny condo for a (somewhat odd and unfinished) log home deep in the forests north of Sandpoint.
